Give your viewer a win before the reel ends

· hooks reels

This one is from Try This, the free weekly email. It is short because the thing itself is short.

The idea

Most expert videos try to give the viewer the whole picture. The framework, the five pillars, the reason it all matters. It is generous and it is the wrong size for a reel.

Instead: pick the one small thing they could do in the next ten minutes, while they are still holding their phone. Then write a hook that promises exactly that, and nothing bigger.

Why it works

A reel is watched in a gap. Between meetings, in a queue, on the sofa with the telly on. Nobody in a gap is about to restructure their business. But they might rename a highlight, re-record a voice note, or move one line of their bio — and if they do it, you are now the person whose advice they have acted on.

That is worth more than a save. A save is a promise to come back. A ten-minute win is a relationship.

Try it this week

Take a video you were about to make. Find the smallest part of it that someone could do today. Make the video about only that. Put the win in the first line.

If it feels too small, it is probably the right size.
